Swansea's Monk: World Cup would only increase Villarreal's asking price for de Guzman

Swansea City caretaker boss Garry Monk would love to permanently sign Jonathan de Guzman this summer.

The 26-year old attacking midfielder has been starring for the Swans this season, his second on loan from Villarreal, which is creating a strong argument for a spot in Holland's World Cup squad.

Monk admits it would be a great bonus if Swansea were able to sign de Guzman on a less temporary basis but knows his price will increase if he does happen to clinch a berth in Louis van Gaal's Oranje roster for Brazil 2014.

"I would certainly give him a shout on a performance like that," ssaid Monk in the wake of de Guzman's two-goal display in Saturday's 3-0 win over Norwich City.

"However, whenever the Dutch boys have come back from a game, they have said how competitive it is and how ruthless the manager is. Still, if he keeps performing like that, who knows?

"It is something we need to talk about (a permanent deal), but if he did go to the World Cup and have a good tournament I know his asking price would go up. That's something we have to be thinking of."
