Barcelona president Laporta: Yuste was Xavi's biggest champion

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is delighted confirming Xavi for next season.

Xavi has reversed his resignation and will continue in charge next term.

At today's media conference, an emotional Laporta said: "I am happy to announce that Xavi will continue as coach of Barça's A team. He made some statements that he had considered leaving, but yesterday he conveyed to me his enthusiasm for the project and the team, to keep winning, that we are now more competitive. Some changes will be made to improve things.

"When we met yesterday, we were clear that it was good news. Stability is a rule in successful projects and especially for this one.

"We understand things in the same way. When we analyze things, our coach always thinks of the best for Barça. It is great news that Xavi is continuing. The team we have, which is settling down, with very young players, needs this stability. Xavi is a reference for the players and we can see it. Today I am extra happy."

Laporta emphasised that the entire management is behind the decision to keep Xavi.

"The board members have always been well guided by Rafa Yuste - who has always been adamant that we must continue with Xavi. He has the absolute trust of the board, the sporting management and the Barcelona fans. Today is good news because we are maintaining the stability of a project that we believe will win even more things.

"Last year we won the Super Cup and the league, which came at a time of maximum difficulty. This year we have not achieved the goals we wanted. We are convinced that it is the best decision and brings stability to the club and the institution. Believe in Barça and in this project, it's worth it. It is an honor to have Xavi's human quality and knowledge."
