Newcastle United's Pardew scoops Manager of the Year gong

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year for the 2011/12 season.

The 50-year old Englishman ash been influential in guiding the Magpies to a top-five position this season to become the first-ever Newcastle boss to win the award.

Newcastle have won 19 and drawn eight of their 37 matches so far this season and could still finish as high as third provided they beat Everton on Sunday and both Arsenal and Tottenham lose.

This season, Pardew made a string of important signings - namely Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse - and his clubs return to the top half of the table has prompted the league to reward him appropriately.
