Murphy won't be applying for Fulham post

Former Fulham captain Danny Murphy won't be applying for the manager's job.

The ex-Liverpool midfielder Murphy, 37, was linked with the manager's role after Felix Magath was axed.

But the Fulham hierarchy told Murphy he wouldn't be a contender for the hotseat and now he is part of the committee set up to seek a replacement for the German coach.

He said: "Initially I was disappointed. But when I thought about it objectively and I looked at the criteria needed for the Fulham job, I'm not ready for that.

"I am in my infancy in terms of coaching."
