The former Portsmouth midfielder said: "Before arriving at Inter I spoke with Jose Mourinho and he explained the situation - if Lampard could not leave, he wanted me.
"I understood and to be second option hasn't hurt me. Lampard remains a great champion, but now it's me at Inter and I want to do well for this team."
