Alessandro Gaucci has played down talk of succeeding good friend Walter Sabatini as Lazio sports director.

Gaucci, who has held the position at Genoa, said yesterday: "In the first place I must say that I have a lot of respect for Walter and I hope he rethinks his decision because he is a great professional, beyond being a friend.

"For now, nothing concrete from Lazio has arrived."
