Diego disappointed with Adelaide sacking

Adelaide United will not renew Brazilian midfielder Diego's contract next season, a move which has disappointed the playmaker. Diego was an integral part of the Reds Asian Champions League campaign but has failed to play regularly in the A-League due to recurring injuries.

"I thought I had done enough to win a new contract," Diego said.

"It is a bit disappointing to be shown the door but if that is the way things are to be done, I have to respect it.

"I still want to thank the fans and the owners of the club for the time I have enjoyed here.

"When I was on the pitch I think I performed and if I was having trouble with injuries, let's get to the source of the problem," he added.

"I showed I could compete against some of the best in Asia. I also thought I did well in the A-League.

"I would love to go to Japan or Korea but if that is not the case I could be signing for an A-League side very soon," he said of his next career move.

"I want to play for a coach that likes my style and believes in me. I think Kossie is one of those guys - he's the one who brought me out here, signed me."
