Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson insists their derby defeat to Sunderland hurt the players.

John Carver's squad have come under fire from angry fans after a club record fifth straight defeat to Sunderland.

"People are entitled to their opinions but there isn't one player out there who doesn't care," insisted Williamson.

"It hurts everybody. Not one player goes out there and is not bothered about the result or their performance. For me a defeat like that hurts deeply."
