France coach Didier Deschamps has defended selecting Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra for their World Cup playoff with Ukraine. Deschamps has been criticised for his decision after Evra lambasted his critics in the media last month.
"Let's talk about Evra. I'm an idiot, former national coach Laurent Blanc is an idiot and Sir Alex Ferguson is a stupid idiot, because he let him play for eight years and even gave him the captain's armband!" scoffed Deschamps.
"I could be wrong, but his presence is purely based on sporting logic. And that's my only logic."
