West Ham's Morrison to miss NZ tour

Ravel Morrison will miss West Ham United's pre-season tour of New Zealand because of a groin injury.

The supremely talented 21-year old midfielder has been forced to undergo surgery on the problem area which was detected when the players returned to pre-season training recently.

A West Ham statement read: "West Ham United can confirm that Ravel Morrison has undergone successful minor groin surgery.

"The 21-year-old was diagnosed with the condition during pre-season testing and had a minor procedure at a central London hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

"The operation was completed without complications and, following a period of rehabilitation, it is expected the England U21 midfielder will return to training in a few weeks when the first-team squad return from New Zealand."

Morrison joined the Hammers from Manchester United in 2012 and has since had loan spells with Birmingham City and QPR.

He will miss the east London club's tour of New Zealand which sees the Hammers take on A-League outfit Wellington Phoenix in Auckland on July 23 and Sydney FC in Wellington on July 26.
