Tim Sherwood is facing the axe as Tottenham manager at the end of this season.
The Mail on Sunday says Louis van Gaal is still the most likely next manager, though the amount of changes he would want to make to the coaching staff, mean that other candidates are being considered.
Sunday's 's opposing manager Mauricio Pochettino is one, although Southampton are currently negotiating a new contract to keep him at the club. Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is also in the frame.
Van Gaal's vision of what the club would be, which is similar to the models at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, where Van Gaal has coached, has been presented to Tottenham. It would focus on bringing through young players rather than buying new talent.
But the amount of control Van Gaal might need to make his plans work could prove a stumbling block to negotiations.
