Van Gaal criticises Man Utd for poor second-half showing at Liverpool

Louis van Gaal felt his Manchester United side were well below par in the second half of their eventual 2-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

?Juan Mata had United a goal ahead at the break after netting in the 14th minute and despite Steven Gerrard's red card early in the second half, the visitors could not get on top of the Reds.

?It took until the 59th minute to double their advantage, again through Mata, before Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool some hope that van Gaal believed they should never had gained.

?"I come in the dressing room and I give all my compliments again but then in the second half everything changed because of the red card and we did not play like a team any more," he said.

"We were running with the ball, unnecessarily losing the ball and when we didn't have the ball we didn't press the opponent with the ball and that was different.

"The second half we were not so good and that is amazing a little bit because we played 11 against 10 and it should be easier but it was not."

?The win gave United some breathing space in the top four as they now sit five points clear of Liverpool and six ahead of Tottenham.?
