Francesco Totti has thanked Roma fans for supporting him after his dismissal in the Coppa Italia final.

The 33-year-old viciously kicked Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli from behind, sparking outrage across Italy.

Speaking after Sunday's 2-1 win over Cagliari, which keeps the title race alive, Totti said: "I dedicate my brace to all the people who have been close to me.

"The Olimpico was really magnificent. There was so much affection for me in a moment that was really difficult.

"I thank you with all my heart. I thank the colours that have always been close to me and the many people who wear the Roma shirt today.

"To you, my team-mates and all of those people who live for Roma, I say only one thing: we believe until the end."
