LeTV Superphone has been unveiled as the title sponsor of the newly packaged China's Women's Super League, in a deal which will run for the next five years, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. LeTV, a technology and media company, had already agreed a deal to be a broadcaster of the competition, alongside several other Chinese networks, and last month agreed a five-year deal to acquire the global media rights, broadcast production rights and a series of sponsorship rights to the eight-team league.
Although the terms of its March deal entitled it to sell the title sponsorship, LeTV has elected instead to promote its own smartphone product.
The women's league is run by the Chinese Football Association (CFA), which has revamped the competition for 2015.
The top eight teams from last year's 16-team national competition will now play in the Super League, with a second division of eight teams also established. One team will be relegated and one promoted each year.
The CFA is aiming to replicate the early commercial success enjoyed by the men's Chinese Super League, which has secured major sponsorship from the likes of Ford and has a major marketing partnership in place with IMG.
The 2015 Women's Super League season is due to begin on Sunday.
