Sunderland are launching a bid for Udinese attacking midfielder Simone Pepe.

The 26-year-old is highly sought after across Europe but Sunderland manager Steve Bruce wants to make a statement of intent with a £15million bid, says the Daily Mail.

Bruce is determined not to suffer another indifferent campaign in the Premier League, knowing pressure will be on his job if he does, and will offload what he can in the summer to help offset the costs of rebuilding.

Sunderland have scouted the player several times and know his signing could open the door to attracting other big names.
