Former Newcastle United chairman Freddie Shepherd believes Mike Ashley will sell the club if they go down.

Newcastle need to beat West Ham at St James Park in their nail biting final game of the season if they are to stand any chance of staying in the Premier League.

Lose or draw, and if Hull beat Manchester United at the KC Stadium, then the Magpies will be relegated for the second time in six years.

"If they do get relegated there could be a change of ownership," said Shepherd to the Daily Express.

"You can't get relegated twice in six years without something at the top being sorted out.

"I think he would try and sell the club. I'm sure of that. He may have had enough."
