Referee Blom axed from Dutch top flight and Euro Championships

The referee who presided over the Scotland v Czech Republic Euro2012 qualifier on Saturday has been demoted from the Dutch Eredivisie and will not be sent to Poland and Ukraine next year.

Dutchman Kevin Blom made some poor decisions in the Hampden Park clash which ended 2-2 and was widely criticised for his performance.

A questionable penalty awarded to the Czechs late in the match and a non-decision in injury time down the other end cost Scotland the match but at least there is some refuge as he has been axed and hammered in his homeland.

Former top Dutch referee Dick Jol told SunSport that Blom will not be the referee that the KNVB (Dutch association) send to Euro2012 and admitted he was not surprised by his showing.

"The decision has been made and Bjorn Kuipers will be the one the KNVB will be nominating for the European Championships," Jol said.

"Actually, Blom's display didn't surprise me.

"Last season he dished out five red cards and most of them were dropped on review.

"The difference between normal refereeing and refereeing at the highest level is in the final phase of a match.

"That's when most red cards, penalties and decisive goals occur. That's when a referee has to be extra sharp and be right on top of all situations."
