West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis is sorry Wolves winger Bakary Sako has confirmed their interest.
Sako comes off contract next month.
"It just goes back to lots of things that I have said in the past," said Pulis.
"I like to do my business between myself and the player or the club and the players' representatives. That's the way business should be done. To advertise it in the paper was obviously a bit disappointing for me and disappointing for the football club.
"There are lots of players we have been discussing in lots of different positions. We will move on as we move on. The best thing to do is as soon as we sign the player the press can speak to them and I will speak about him.
"There's going to be lots of offers (for Sako) and lots of people interested and they (his agents) are going to try and do the best they possibly can to get the best deal they can possibly get."
