PREMIER LEAGUE WRAP: Liverpool continue stunning form with win over Man City as Arsenal climb back to third

Liverpool claimed the scalp of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on another weekend of action-packed football from around the UK.

Fine goals either side of the break from Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho, bookending Edin Dzeko's 25th-minute equaliser, gave the Reds a 2-1 win at home as Brendan Rodgers' men made it three league wins on the trot to move up to fifth place on the table.

The triumph extends an unbeaten run of 11 matches, eight of those being wins, giving the Anfield club 27 points out of a possible 33.

Arsenal, in a similar fashion to Liverpool, bounced back from midweek European disappointment to defeat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Olivier Giroud helped himself to his ninth league goal of the season in the 39th minute before Tomas Rosicky wrapped it up in the 89th minute to send Arsene Wenger's back to third.

The north Londoners sit a point clear of fourth-placed Manchester United who required a brace from Wayne Rooney to down Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils skipper converted from the penalty spot in the 66th minute after Wes Brown was wrongfully dismissed for bringing down Radamel Falcao before the England captain added a second with a close range finish six minutes from time.

In other BPL results, Glenn Murray scored a double before being sent off as Crystal Palace got the better of West Ham United 3-1 at Upton Park, Swansea City edged Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor courtesy of a Kieran Trippier own-goal, Papiss Cisse's 11th goal of the campaign gave Newcastle United a narrow 1-0 result over Aston Villa who haven't won since December 7, Stoke City beat Hull City 1-0 and Saido Berahino scored for the 11th time in the league to give West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 triumph over Southampton who dropped to sixth.

The final fixtures of this weekend's round will take place further down track following the Capital One Cup involving Chelsea and Tottenham which the Blues won 2-0 at Wembley.

Spurs head to London rivals QPR on Sunday, March 8 while Jose Mourinho's triumphant league leaders are away at bottom-placed Leicester City on Thursday, April 30.
