PREMIER LEAGUE: van Persie breaks Henry record as Arsenal edge QPR

Arsenal have moved into the top four courtesy of today's 1-0 victory over London rivals QPR at the Emirates Stadium.

Gunners captain Robin van Persie broke Thierry Henry's Arsenal record of 34 goals in a calendar year when he finished for his 35th on the hour-mark from a neat Andrey Arshavin through ball to give his side maximum points on a day of upsets in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger's men completely dominated proceedings and should have had at least a few goals although the R's did look menacing at times but in the end fired a blank.

Both Wojciech Szczesny and Radek Cerny had to come up with just under a handful of crucial saves each but it was Arsenal who threatened their opponents goal on more occasions with a number of chances falling to the likes of van Persie, substitute Gervinho and Aaron Ramsey.

van Persie was not devoid of chances throughout the encounter and could quite possibly have beaten Alan Shearer's 1995 record of 36 top flight goals but had to settle for just the club record as the Gunners but behind them a poor start to the season to be sitting ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool and just three points behind North London rivals Tottenham at the turn of the year.

For QPR, their plight continues to get tougher as they dropped to 17th with a fifth loss in their past seven outings which may force Neil Warnock into action in the winter transfer market.

TRIBAL ASKS: Is a Champions League spot there for the taking for Arsenal? Will the inclusion of Henry for two months assist van Persie up front?
