Palace keeper Speroni happy to end Fulham rumours

Julian Speroni is happy to have ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract with Crystal Palace.

Fulham had a bid for the 31-year-old turned down and Speroni revealed that interest, while nice to receive, had been in his mind when he mulled over the new offer made to him by Palace.

He has previously said that the "only reason" he would stay at Selhurst Park was his love for the club - and in the end he had to choose whether to follow his head or his heart.

"I am pleased to finally finish with all the speculation so now I can concentrate on what I like to do," he told the Croydon Advertiser.

"It was a very hard decision. I was stuck between my head and my heart. I knew a move could be good for me to get into in the Premier League and maybe have a chance of playing for my country, and I knew if I made the decision to sign for Palace I might have to give up on a lot of stuff - at least in the near future.

"But I decided to follow my heart."
