Moyes hoping his Everton team are in form against Sydney FC

David Moyes hopes his Everton team can brush off a shortened preparation for Saturday's opening Down Under friendly with Sydney FC.

The Toffees meet the reigning A-League champions in the first of three pre-season matches in Australia and Moyes is eyeing a positive performance despite the fact his players have done less fitness training than normal.

"Normally I would train the boys a lot longer before we start but this has been pushed in a bit quicker so we're doing what we can to be ready for the games," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I'm not sure what condition or form we'll be in but the key for us is to use these games to get ready for the Premier League.

"When people come to see you they want to see you hit the ground running. But you must remember that we only started training last Thursday and we've done a little bit over here."

Moyes said the trip, which also takes in matches against new A-League club Melbourne Heart and establishment team Brisbane Roar, would provide a good insight into the goings on of the squad for new recruits including former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford, young Frenchman Magaye Gueye and Portuguese striker Joao Silva.

"They'll get to see the spirit amongst the lads, which they'll have already seen because they've all settled in well," he added.

"Don't forget that two of them are young boys and they'll be given time.

"Jermaine's different because he's older and we'll see how he goes but the other two shouldn't be considered as starters for the first team just yet."
