Former Real Madrid chief Pedja Mijatovic admits they were keen to sign Fernando Torres when he was originally with Atletico.

Torres returned to Atletico Madrid this week.

"We considered signing him during my time at the club. You have to look at your options when you're the director of football and Torres was always on our list. We talked about signing him, but it was always going to be a tough deal to make," said Mijatovic.

"It wasn't a question of money, rather the team he was playing at."
