Philippe Mexes insists Roma deserved the title ahead of champions Inter Milan.

"Roma and our fans deserved this Scudetto," Mexes insisted. "We wanted it so much and we tried so hard, but we couldn't do it.

"We have still achieved a lot and this was a great season, but we could and should have won the League earlier. It's not that we gave up against Catania - we were mentally tired.

"Compliments to Inter, but we also deserve credit because we fought until the end and showed that we have improved over the years.

"Now we want to beat them in the Coppa Italia so that we can show everyone that we are the strongest team in Italy."
