Man Utd players warned: Van Gaal not interested in reputation

Former Bayern Munich sporting director Christian Nerlinger says reputations will mean little to Louis van Gaal should he take charge of Manchester United.

Van Gaal will not care about reputation, transfer fees or past achievements if he is given the keys to Old Trafford.

So says Nerlinger, telling the Telegraph: "For Van Gaal, it is not about who you are, what you have cost or what you have done.

"It is about performance, behaviour and professionalism. These are the things that count for him.

"He does not mind bringing in a youngster if a youngster is following his philosophy better, or even just the same. Van Gaal is very demanding and provocative with his players and staff. He wants to see how they will react.

"Other than training players on the ball, Van Gaal also tries to train the brains of his players. He likes intelligent players and tries to eliminate coincidence. Things happen in his teams because they are planned."
