Liverpool maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign away from home with a 0-0 draw at Blackburn.

The visitors showed little attacking inclination in the first half and were thankful to the woodwork on two occasions which denied David Bentley and David Dunn.

But once Harry Kewell and Peter Crouch came on as substitute's midway through the second period the balance of power switched towards Liverpool and they missed chances for all three points.

Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel saved well from Steven Gerrard and Bentley headed off the line in a frenetic final quarter of the game in which Dirk Kuyt should have sealed the win but missed badly on three occasions.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez preferred to look at the positives of Liverpool's 150th draw in the Premiership.

"We are not too disappointed; before the game we knew we were playing a Blackburn side that had won their last seven games but after the game with the clear chances that we had in the second half we could have won.

"If we play like that against Besiktas in midweek we will score. The positives are the way we controlled the game and kept going forward looking to win at the end.

"Blackburn had opportunities but towards the end we were controlling more and more."

As to the points gap between Liverpool and the top four Benitez was not too concerned.

"We have a game in hand and the team is progressing. We are creating chances to win games and this is a positive thing. We may not be taking them but at least we are playing well and creating them."
