Jewell proud of Derby, despite Owls draw

Derby County face an FA Cup replay after drawing 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday.

With new-boy Emanuel Villa watching from the stands, he must have thought about taking the first plane back to South America after just 23 minutes as the Rams were 2-0 down.

Goalkeeper Lewis Price gifted 18-year-old centre-back Mark Beevers the first goal of his fledgling career in the eighth minute by spilling his shot over the line.

Then centre-back Darren Moore's error allowed former Rams striker Marcus Tudgay to poach the second midway through the half.

But then Derby did something they have not managed all season, and that was to come back from being behind and snatch a result.

Goals from Kenny Miller and Giles Barnes ensured Jewell will return to his former club for a replay at Hillsborough on January 15.

"A month ago we would have lost that game heavily, but we showed good character to come back," assessed Jewell.

"We made the usual basic errors, but I am taking the positives out of the game.

"The situation we're in at the moment, we have to take any crumb of comfort we can, and a 2-2 draw with a team near the bottom of the Championship, on reflection, is not a great thing.

"But we were 2-0 down and staring down a barrel, so I'm pleased we're still in the hat, and pleased we've come back from a goal down which we've not done since I've been here."
