Gilberto to join Defoe in remaining at Toronto FC - Bezbatchenko

Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko has revealed that Designated Player Gilberto will remain with the club in 2015.

Speculation regarding the future of both the Brazilian and fellow marquee man Jermain Defoe has been rife in recent times but the Reds chief put those rumours straight by confirming the pair would be at BMO Field next season.

"Gilberto, he obviously found his form and we've always said that international players can take some time, especially one that has never played abroad before," Bezbatchenko said.

"I think, with Gilberto, if we get him into scoring positions, I think he'll score a number of goals this year.

"He has a great attitude and I think, at times, he was [played] out of position but right now, he's in our plans just like Jermain."

28-year old Gilberto joined the Canadian club from Internacional prior to the 2014 MLS season and managed seven goals in 28 appearances in his debut campaign.
