Premier League outfit West Ham United and Championship club Nottingham Forest are believed to be keen on Barnsley's Adam Hammill.
The 22-year old midfielder has emerged as a promising talent in the past two years and now the Hammers and Forest will do battle for his services in January.
Nottingham boss Billy Davies has indicated he needs some reinforcements in winter and the former Liverpool youth star could be the man to help strengthen the promotion-chasing squad.
"We need to freshen up. We need to keep things moving forward," he said.
"The list is in the hands of the board, we will wait to see what is going on.
"Speed is crucial, we need to get it done as soon as possible and not leave it to the last week of the January window."
