Ex-Crystal Palace defender Popovic heaps praise on former Feyenoord ace Ono

Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Tony Popovic has praised Shinji Ono after his brilliant goal helped the first-year club into the A-League Grand Final.

The former Feyenoord and Japan midfielder scored with a delightful chip in the 71st minute to ensure the Wanderers a path into the decider with a 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday night and head coach Tony Popovic was absolutely thrilled with his performance after returning from injury.

"When you see goals like that, that is special," said the former Crystal Palace defender.

"It's why marquees are so special in this league.

"He's been out of the team for a few weeks now with his injury and to come in, in a pressure game with that intensity and to produce like that is why he's a special player."
