Everton winger McGeady: I suppose Ireland have to beat Scotland

Aiden McGeady 'supposes' the Republic of Ireland has to beat Scotland in their next Euro2016 qualifier.

The Scotland-born Everton winger and his Irish teammates are preparing for Friday's friendly with England in Dublin before taking on the Scots in a vital Group D qualifier at the Aviva Stadium on June 13.

When asked by reporters if it is a must-win match, McGeady was not placing too much emphasis on the fact that Ireland actually sit two points behind third-place Scotland in the race for automatic qualification for the UEFA tournament in France next summer.

"Do we have to win this game against Scotland?" said McGeady.

"Eh… not necessarily have to win, but not lose," he added, before asking: "Are Scotland on the same points as us?"

McGeady was then informed of the gap: "Oh right, sorry, didn't realise that. Well, I suppose we have to win. If we don't, we slip away.

"There will still be few games left, but you'd be hoping Scotland and Poland drop points."
