Derby appoint ex-Real Madrid assistant Clement

Paul Clement has been appointed as manager of Derby County on a three-year deal.

Clement had been placed as favourite to take over the reins at the iPro Stadium from Steve McClaren and his exit as assistant manager of Real Madrid recently only served to fuel the speculation.

Now Derby have confirmed that Clement has been appointed as manager of the club and the 43-year old was thrilled to put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship outfit.

Clement told the club's official website "I'm incredibly excited to be joining Derby County as head coach and I am looking forward to meeting the players and getting started.

"This is a massive club with fantastic facilities and a superb fan base who deserve success. Having spoken with [club president] Sam Rush and the owners I firmly believe we share the same desires and ambitions and that is to once again make Derby County a Premier League club."
