Departing Lampard: It has been a pleasure to play for Man City

Frank Lampard has shown his gratitude to Manchester City after his final appearance for the club.

The former Chelsea star ended his one-year spell with City by scoring a goal in the 2-0 win over Southampton at home, ending the season on - and his Premier League career - on a winning note.

"I have turned up here at age of 36. I didn't know what to expect, from the dressing room and the fans and living in this city, and all I can say is thank you so much to everybody," said Lampard.

"This is a very special club and from bottom of my heart it's been a pleasure to play for you."

After beginning his career with West Ham United in 1995, Lampard had a loan spell at Swansea City in 1995/96, before joining Chelsea in 2001.

The ex-England international spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League, four FA Cups and two League Cups, before joining City last summer.

Lampard will now leave English football to join MLS expansion franchise New York City FC in July.
