Chelsea's England captain John Terry has urged fans not to condemn Wayne Rooney for his Montenegro madness. Manchester United striker Rooney was sent off for the sixth time in his career - in the process joining David Beckham as the only men to twice see red playing for England - as Fabio Capello's side booked a place at Euro 2012 despite letting a two-goal lead slip in Podgorica.

Terry said: "I just hope that after what's happened with Wayne, no-one has a go and people don't start jumping all over him.

"We've got to remember that we wouldn't even be in the position we have found ourselves at the end of the qualifying group if it hadn't been for Wayne.

"He has been sent off and that means he will miss one or two games when we get to the finals. But it was just one of those things that can happen in games.

"There will little bits of things going on all over the park against Montenegro, but Wayne has been sent off for what was just a bit of a collision. Thankfully the red card didn't cost us. We came away with a great result because we've qualified.

"Wayne's been in great form all the way through qualifying, everyone should remember that."
