Aberdeen boss Craig Brown has warned players there's still plenty of hard work ahead of them after thrashing Kilmarnock 5-0.

Scott Vernon and Sone Aluko gave the Dons a two-goal half-time lead before a Chris Maguire penalty, a Rory McArdle tap-in and a strike from substitute Josh Magennis completed the scoring.

Brown said: "It was a pleasing result, particularly after the midweek disappointment against Motherwell.

"I'm not getting carried away and talking about the top six, all we are focusing on is consolidation in the SPL.

"If we can win some games between now and the end of the season we may emerge on the fringe of the six but I have never set that as the target."

Brown believes the amount of young players that are breaking into the Dons side points to a rosy future for the club.

He added: "We were eight players short of our strongest possible team against Motherwell and we managed to get three of them back for today.

"We still had two key players missing in Andrew Considine and Paul Hartley yet managed to get a good victory.

"The most pleasing part of today was the fact that in the SPL you have to list 18 players and it is mandatory that you have three under-21 players - we had nine today. That is arguably more pleasing than the big victory."
