Bournemouth hero Redknapp: Howe deserves to be 'Lord Mayor'

Harry Redknapp has called for Eddie Howe to be labelled the new Lord Mayor of Bournemouth.

The 37-year old is on the brink of leading AFC Bournemouth to the Premier League which would be the first time in the club's 116-year history that they have played in England's top flight.

Monday night's 3-0 win over Bolton at the Goldsands Stadium effectively saw the Cherries sew up a top-two finish in the Championship, barring a 19-goal loss to Charlton Athletic this Saturday, meaning they are set for the Premier League and ex-boss Redknapp feels Howe should be lauded for his efforts.

"Eddie deserves to be the Lord Mayor or something," said Redknapp on Sky Sports.

"It's fantastic, thoroughly deserved. They've been amazing all year and the football they produced tonight, they have produced all year.

"It's a pleasure to come and watch them."

Howe took the reins of the Dorset club at the start of 2009 and got them up to League One before leaving for Burnley in 2011.

The former Cherries defender returned to Dean Court in October 2012 and led the club to the Championship in the 2012/13 season prior to this campaign's brilliant Premier League promotion.
