Bolton defender Cahill: England selection a big ask

Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill accepts his chances of making England's World Cup squad are all but over.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are all reported to have shown an interest in the 24-year-old in recent months.

Cahill, who missed a chunk of the season with a blood clot in his arm, is hopeful of grabbing a place in Fabio Capello's squad.

"Maybe, looking at it honestly, it's a big ask," he said.

"But I am pushing and striving to get myself in that long squad of 30 that goes to Austria.

"I think that's my main aim now. If it happens, that will be brilliant for me, If it doesn't I will keep plugging away until it does."
