Bolton defender Gary Cahill believes he is good enough to play for England.
The 23-year old has been touted as a potential international star by people at Reebok Stadium but now needs to prove himself to England boss Fabio Capello.
Cahill is confident that he can match it with the best in the world.
"I definitely think I can play for England one day," said Cahill.
"You have got to have that confidence in your own ability."
Bolton boss Gary Megson is adamant that Cahill can make it to the next level but needs to oust Chelsea's John Terry and Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand in order to become a regular starter for England.
"We knew he had ability and if he'd gone somewhere else, we would never be able to sign him now for the kind of money we paid," said Megson.
"As for England, Gary's got to accept that he has two world-class centre halves in front of him but if he keeps playing and doing little wrong then it won't be long before he's called up."
