Winterburn expects Arsenal to buy new striker

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger plans to buy a new striker in January.

Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn reckons Wenger will attempt to strengthen in January despite having options to play Nicklas Bendtner, Lukas Podolski or Theo Walcott up front.

He told the Daily Star: "The one area of concern is at centre-forward. They've only really got Olivier Giroud up there.

"I know Arsene Wenger could play Podolski or Walcott there if he needed to but I think he may look to bring in a striker, in case Giroud gets injured or suffers a lack of form.

"Giroud has done so well.

"I was impressed with him last season but he has improved his hold-up play and looks sharp in and around the box.

"It seems he has learned from last season that he needs to be strong to hold up the ball, and his link-up play has improved."
