Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is delighted to have secured Tom Robson to a new deal.
The Evening Chronicle says Sunderland currently have no specialist senior left-back, which could see youngster Robson come into contention during pre-season - at least until a new recruit arrives.
Robson, 20, played for the U21s last term and was a target for Fulham at the end of the season, but he turned down the Londoners' overtures and signed a new two-year deal on Wearside instead.
