Newcastle to land Derby boss McClaren

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Derby County manager Steve McClaren.

Newcastle slumped to their sixth consecutive loss following the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and such a torrid run of results have meant that the club is unlikely to retain the services of manager John Carver beyond the end of the current campaign.

The Magpies are already said to have scoured potential targets to replace Carver and now according to reports from the Daily Star, it has been claimed that the club are eyeing a swoop for McClaren.

McClaren has done a fine job at the iPro Stadium over the past few years and it is believed that Newcastle will be the likely destination for the former England boss if Derby miss out on promotion to the Premier League this season.
