Carles Rexach has revealed why Lionel Messi was not at his deadly best for Barcelona last year.
The Argentine maestro's customary world-class performances for the Catalan giants took a dip during 2014 and director Rexach, who was Barcelona's manager when Messi was in the youth academy, thinks he knows the reason.
"Before he ate at the club and rested after, but it seems as if Messi ate more pizzas than he should have last year," he said in an interview with Regio7.
Rexach also felt that manager Luis Enrique's new regime may not quite fit into Messi's day-to-day routine.
"Luis Enrique has started by imposing too many rules - if you don't train you don't play," he added.
"Let's see what happens when Messi doesn't train and he needs him."
