Chelsea boss Scolari "relaxed" after opening win

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has won his opening game in charge, enjoying a comfortable 4-0 victory over China's Guangzhou Pharmaceutical.

Salomon Kalou, Frank Lampard, Argentinian teenager Franco Di Santo and Shaun Wright-Phillips scored to secure their victory over the Chinese Super League side.

The Blues dominated the opener of their five-game pre-season tour of Asia and Russia at Guangzhou Olympic Stadium, with the only concern for Scolari seeing summer signing Jose Bosingwa substituted after 20 minutes with a slight thigh injury after a brief but impressive debut at right-back.

Scolari fielded a strong side from the start, with Deco making his debut in midfield alongside Lampard, who played the entire game, with Joe Cole and Andriy Shevchenko not included in the squad due to minor injuries.

"I was relaxed. It is always good to win the game but it doesn't matter much the result, the team is not ready yet. They have some difficulties physically and this they will sort out," Scolari told Chelsea's website afterwards.

"I think it is normal for the first game. The players have been training well for two weeks, strong training that is more for fitness than for the technical side."

On a day when the age of Chelsea's squad has entered the debate, it was noteworthy that in Kalou, Lampard, Di Santo and Wright-Phillips, the four goals were spread across a 22, a 30, a 19 and a 26-year-old.

"I think I have players with experience and I think I have some young boys in my team and I have players who have experience in the Premier League," observed Scolari.
