Baldini will become 'free advisor' to England after Euro 2012 qualifiers

Franco Baldini is to remain involved with England after he joins Roma. Baldini has agreed to become general manager of the Serie A club at the end of England's Euro 2012 qualification campaign in October.

Baldini told La Repubblica: "Once the contract (with Roma) starts, my role as sporting director with the English FA will become only that of a free advisor until the end of Euro 2012. Everything is clear and friendly."

Baldini, who says he has yet to sign a contract with Roma, stated he was responsible for bringing former Barcelona B boss Luis Enrique in as Roma's new coach.

"I wanted someone foreign from Italian football," said Baldini.

"Someone that was not contaminated. Luis Enrique is very motivated."

Baldini revealed he had met with former Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas earlier this summer, with a view to him possibly becoming the new Roma boss.

Villas-Boas signed for Chelsea last month.

"I had dinner with Villas-Boas," Baldini said.

"I immediately felt a good rapport but Villas-Boas was too expensive."
