Argentine Lopez doing his bit for Colorado Rapids

Former Argentina international Claudio Lopez is simply doing his bit for MLS club Colorado Rapids.

The 36-year old attacking veteran has been used sparingly by Rapids boss Gary Smith this season but was brought on for the entirety of extra-time in the second leg semi-final against Columbus Crew, culminating in a vital penalty conversion in the successful shootout.

Lopez, who has performed consistently well in the highest leagues in Europe, Argentina and Mexico, knows he is now at a stage in his career where he will only be called on when required and he says he doesn't mind as everybody at the club is working towards the same goal.

"It's exciting to be in this position," he told MLSsoccer.com ahead of Saturday's Eastern Conference final against San Jose Earthquakes. "It's good to see the coach trust me to go in at that time of the game.

"Every week, we work in training for playing at the weekend. I think everyone is important in this team.

"Everyone's working for the team."

The Rapids are at home against the Quakes on Saturday night with the winner going through to the MLS Cup final which will be held at Toronto's BMO Field on November 21.
