Adelaide United defender Daniel Mullen was named as the U20 Australian Footballer of the Year last night. The 19-year old was awarded the prize at the inaugural Australian Football Awards last night in Sydney and was surprised at the result.

"I honestly did not expect it," an elated Mullen said after returning to Adelaide.

"It was a massive honour and to win it on the first time of the awards was extra special."
