UNCOVERED: How Man Utd keeper Henderson trained with Carlisle seniors at 13

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson was training with the first team at Carlisle United at 13 years of age, it has been revealed.

Henderson could start tonight against Champions League opponents PSG.

"Dean representing Carlisle, that was the dream that we all had, myself, first-team goalkeeper coach Tony Caig and the head of youth Eric Kinder," Ben Benson, Carlisle's former head of academy goalkeeping, recalled to the Daily Mail.

"So much so that we tied him down to a six-year contract. At under-11 we signed him until he was 16! That shows we knew we had an exceptional boy on our hands."

Benson, now goalkeeping coach at Blackburn, added: "He enjoyed the detail of goalkeeping, the intricacies of the position. He caught the goalkeeping bug.

"Even now we'll meet up and he'll want to go through this, have a look at this or ask 'what do you think?' That thirst for knowledge has never really left him."

Caig, now Livingston first-team coach, said: "They [the senior keepers] were looking at me initially like 'what? 13?'

"I'm like 'yeah, when you see him you'll know what I mean! I'll let his goalkeeping do the talking.

"He was just so eager to do well and impress. He was never fazed. The way he moved, his technique, desire to keep the ball out of the net, personality and character, all of that shone through, even at that age."
