Sydney boss to ask Osieck if he can have Emerton

Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka may ask for permission to have Brett Emerton excused from international duty in early October.

The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder is likely to be involved with the Australian squad for their friendly with Malaysia on October 7, essentially ruling him out of the A-League season opener against Melbourne Victory and Harry Kewell the following day.

But Lavicka may speak to Socceroos boss Holger Osieck to see if he can have Emerton for the match as the Malysia game in Canberra is only a precursor to the World Cup qualifier against Oman days later.

"Before I came to Australia, when I was the national coach of the Czech Republic under-21 team, I knew very well how difficult these decisions can be," Lavicka said.

"There is always fighting between international team duties and club duties.

"I haven't spoken personally to Holger about this situation yet, but it's possible that may happen. I may try to ask him, we will see.

"Of course it's his decision and I have great respect for Holger. I consider him a friend and whatever decision he makes I will accept - even though I will be upset if Brett is not available for the game against Melbourne.

"It would be great to see both Harry and Brett there for the opening game ... it would be a statement for Australian football."
