Sporting Gijon are set to sign Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote.

AS says Tioté's current deal with Newcastle is set to expire in under six months and the club and player are currently trying to negotiate an agreement that would see him free to sign with a new club with the termination of his Newcastle contract.

Sporting Gijón in LaLiga have been touted as a very possible destination.

The Asturian club's director of football Nico Rodriguez has been in England to negotiate a deal but reports are that "progress has been slow" with any potential deal.
