Southampton boss Hasenhuttl reveals new plans for Stuart Armstrong

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says he has new plans for Stuart Armstrong.

The midfielder scored in the midweek friendly win against Monaco.

On Wednesday night the 30-year-old was deployed as a second striker, operating off the shoulder of the forward.

He came off the bench to score, swivelling and firing home from 12 yards out after he had been fashioned in by Joel Aribo.

Explaining the thought process behind Armstrong's new role, Hasenhuttl said: “Yeah, I think we should bring his biggest strength and this is goalscoring.

“In a position where it is close as possible to the goal.

“So it definitely makes sense to have him as high up the pitch as possible."
